Overview

The Kathmandu Valley is a mountain biker's paradise. Surrounded by forested hills and laced with ancient trails connecting traditional villages, hidden temples, and panoramic viewpoints, this UNESCO World Heritage region offers incredible riding for all skill levels.

For centuries, these trails were walked by traders, pilgrims, and farmers. Today, they provide some of Asia's best single-track mountain biking. You'll pedal past centuries-old stupas, through terraced farmland, into dense forests, and emerge at ridgelines with sweeping Himalayan views.

Our guided mountain biking tours range from gentle valley explorations suitable for casual riders to technical descents that challenge even experienced bikers. All tours include quality mountain bikes, safety equipment, and expert local guides who know every trail.

Popular Routes

Nagarkot to Changu Narayan (Easy-Moderate): Start at the famous sunrise viewpoint of Nagarkot and descend through pine forests and farmland to the ancient temple of Changu Narayan. Mostly downhill with stunning mountain views. Perfect for beginners.

Shivapuri National Park (Moderate): Explore the forested hills north of Kathmandu in this protected area. Technical single-track through oak and rhododendron forests with wildlife sightings. Great for intermediate riders.

Kakani to Budhanilkantha (Challenging): A demanding ride starting from the Kakani viewpoint with technical descents through remote villages. Rewards with exceptional Himalayan panoramas and authentic cultural encounters.

Best Time to Visit

Autumn (September-November): The ideal season for mountain biking. Post-monsoon trails are in good condition, temperatures are comfortable, and mountain views are at their best. The rice harvest adds golden hues to the valley.

Spring (March-May): Another excellent period. Rhododendrons bloom in the higher forests, creating beautiful riding conditions. Slightly warmer than autumn, with occasional afternoon showers later in the season.

Winter (December-February): Cool but rideable. Morning fog in the valley can be atmospheric, and trails are quiet. Some higher routes may be too cold. Good for valley-based rides.

Monsoon (June-August): Not recommended. Trails become slippery and dangerous, leeches are active in forests, and views are obscured by clouds. Some valley routes possible on dry days.

How It Works

Morning Pickup

We collect you from your Kathmandu hotel early (around 7-8 AM) and transfer you to the starting point. For Nagarkot rides, this includes a scenic drive to 2,175 meters.

Bike Fitting & Briefing

Select your bike and get it adjusted to your height and preferences. Your guide provides a safety briefing covering trail etiquette, hand signals, and what to expect.

Hit the Trail

Begin your ride! Guides set a comfortable pace and share insights about the landscape, history, and local culture. Frequent photo stops at scenic points.

Lunch Break

Stop at a local teahouse or scenic spot for a packed lunch or dal bhat (traditional Nepali meal). Rest, refuel, and prepare for the afternoon ride.

Afternoon Riding

Continue through changing landscapes — perhaps a final descent to a heritage site or leisurely valley trails. The guide adjusts the route based on group energy and conditions.

Return to Kathmandu

The support vehicle meets you at the end point for transfer back to your hotel. Relax, reminisce, and plan your next ride!
